Carol L. Befort

Having spent many years in the Insurance Industry and then forced  to retire in the mid 90s with a brain injury,  I went back to my first love of Oil Painting at the suggestion of my Therapist.  Rebuilding the brain after a traumatic injury is painstaking and time consuming.   Painting has always been relaxing for me and contributed to my regaining some semblance of normalcy, even though, I was unable to return to the demanding insurance career.

My formal painting instruction came through a very wonderful woman who was from Austria and studied Art at the Sorbonne in France and with European Masters in Italy.   She took me on as a private student during my high school years and the first two years following until I moved away.   She taught me the glazing methods of the masters based on the historic Dutch painter Vermeer, although adapted to modern techniques and mediums.   She also was a profound student and teacher of color theory.  I take great pride in offering to teach others what she so diligently taught me.

Several of my paintings have won awards in the Midwest.  You will find pictures of those in my gallery on this site.  All but a few are in private collections across the U.S.

I’ve also taken a joy in my photography, but only as a novice and it is a hobby I truly enjoy… most of my success is due to pure accidental shots, which I really have become to believe is the basis of many great photographer’s success…  being in the right time and the right place with the lens!   I’ve posted several of my favorite photos in a gallery on this site.
